Right now the economy is strong in the world of construction. However- back in 2008-2012 there was not much work out there other than government work and so that was most of many portfolios. There will come a time sooner or later when the economic wave starts heading south again (hopefully not to the degree that it did) and we government projects will once again be the majority player.
There were numerous times when various legislation (David Bacon/ Title 3/ MWD ect) had its challenges. Like so many government or government subsidized programs the intent is good right? Let’s make it fair and give everyone a chance to win. Sounds like a good thing. However- skilled trades like elevators are not taken into consideration.
Regardless of where you stand politically it is certainly in all businesses’ best interest to allow free trade to work. I encourage you to vote
and/or call your congress rep to support leaving free trade in construction alone. Capitalism works for us…..Lets not “fix” it.
Ask President Trump to immediately rescind President Obama’s pro-project labor agreement (PLA) Executive Order 13502 and replace it with a new order identical to the 2001 Executive Orders 13202 and 13208, which maintained government neutrality towards PLAs on federal and federally assisted construction contracts.
In order to create the conditions for innovation and free enterprise, we must promote open competition, efficiency, fairness and equality in government contracting. Mandating PLAs needlessly limits the pool of experienced and qualified bidders to deliver the best possible product to taxpayers at the best possible price and discourages competition from merit shop contractors.
Ask the President to restore fairness and robust competition in government contracting NOW and provide the opportunity for all of the more than seven million Americans in the construction workforce to participate in federal contracting!
